OUR WELSH HONEY PGI STATUS

OUR WELSH HONEY PGI STATUS

THE FIRST HONEY IN THE UK TO RECEIVE
PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

We are delighted to announce that The London Honey Company has received official PGI certification for a unique and extremely special honey.

Welsh Heather Honey has become the first honey in the UK to receive the coveted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, a legal designation awarded by the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

By virtue of its unique characteristics and location, Welsh Heather Honey has received protection under the *UK GI (Geographical Indication) Scheme.

WE SEEK OUT UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTS

Our migration to the heather moors in Wales is done from our apiary in Shropshire, near the Welsh border, and relatively close for the bees to travel to.

Moving the bees in the evening whilst they rest, the beekeepers set up camp on arrival and awake with the bees in a new, spectacular location on the high heather hills.

The length of the Heather Honey production season is very weather-dependent and can vary significantly. Typically, the beautiful purple heather moors are at their best from July - September.

A PRECIOUS HARVEST

However, depending on the season, the window for obtaining the honey can be very short, often lasting a matter of days and requiring specific skills.

This means that the honey volumes are often small, which makes all Heather Honey a rare and extremely precious product from nature.
